A shipping container as a sanitary block – how we do it
Sanitary containers are one of the most practical applications of modular container architecture. For ATM Inwestycje Sp. z o.o. from Bielany Wrocławskie (near Wrocław, Poland), we designed and built a complete sanitary block based on a new 40 HC One Way shipping container – ready to connect and use within 10 weeks of signing the contract.
8 rooms in a single module
The main design challenge was making efficient use of the 12.2 × 2.4 m floor plan to fit eight independent rooms with different functions:
- 3 shower cabins (3.78 m² each) – shower, compact toilet, washbasin
- 2 toilet cubicles (2.5 m² each) – compact toilet, washbasin
- 1 disabled-access toilet (3.78 m²) – wider 90 cm door, full fittings
- 1 portable toilet washing station (1.6 m²) – SANBOX point
- 1 dishwashing station (1.6 m²)
Each room has its own external entrance – anthracite technical doors with a porthole (40 mm), built for heavy use.
Finishes at permanent-building standard
Wet zones demand materials that stand up to moisture and cleaning agents. We chose solutions proven in public-use facilities:
- Sintered stone Filo Argento / Filo Pece – on walls, moisture-resistant and easy to maintain
- SINIAT CEMENTEX 10 mm board – wet-zone substrate instead of standard plasterboard
- Commercial vinyl flooring on 100 mm XPS substrate
- Closed-cell spray foam insulation – 20–60 mm on walls, 50 mm in ceiling
Installations – complete infrastructure in one module
The container is fully self-contained in terms of installations – it only needs an external water/sewage connection and power supply:
- Plumbing: concealed alupex pipework, BOSCH 100L water heater, external water/sewage connection
- Electrical: three-phase installation, 2×10 distribution board, IP65 sealed sockets, LED lighting with motion sensors
- Mechanical ventilation: 500 m³/h unit, 8 diffusers – meets required air-change rates in all rooms
- Heating: RedSnake infrared heater, 5.6 kW
Delivered in 10 weeks
From contract signing (19.02.2025) to a ready container – 10 weeks. This is possible thanks to prefabrication at our facility in Wrocław: all work – steel cutting and welding, installations, and finishing – is carried out under one roof, with no dependency on external construction crews.
If you need a sanitary solution for your project – construction site, market, recreational facility or public event – get in touch. We'll find the right module and room layout to match your requirements.
